The Kids Hymnal: 80 Songs and Hymns 3-CD Set
From Hendrickson Workshop and the Wonder Kids, I was thrilled to listen to the first CD of this 3 CD set. I am passionate about children learning the old “Sunday School Songs” and Hymns. Many of the contemporary churches have set aside these classic songs and hymns which I think is sad. Disc 1 is filled with 25 of the best hymns.
CD 2 contained a mixture of songs both new and old. CD 3 contained some patriotic and holiday songs.
The CD is also in split track form. If you aren’t familiar with the split track capabilities, here is an explanation:
“Split-track recordings have the instruments and the voices sent to separate speakers. God’s Kids Worship CD’s have the instruments in the left, and the voices on the right. For performances, you can easily turn down the original voice tracks and replace them with your children’s choir. Or, you can mix in just enough voice tracks to give your singers confidence to sing out.”
This allows the CD to be used in a setting where only the accompaniment is desired to be heard.
Although I definitely enjoyed this CD, I was a little disappointed with the song choices on the 2nd CD. The title of the CD is “Kids Hymnal” which to me implies a collection of the older songs. The songs are some that I am unfamiliar with and not the standards. This CD set would have received a “†††††” easily had the entire song collection been hymns and all the old Sunday School songs. I realize this is a personal preference so please take it as that.
Overall, I love CD 1 and will be using it in my kiddos CD players at night as they sleep. Highly suggest for those who want to teach your kids the hymns, patriotic and holiday songs. Also, as low as the price is for this CD set, it is definitely worth it even if you only use one of the three CD’s!
Another great thing is Kids Hymnal also comes in many forms – book and CD combo, DVD, accompaniment book, etc.
