I am always looking for new items to tell you about. I look for games that are educational and fun – for books that will be read over and over – for activities that take little supplies and create lots of fun. Christmas is a great time to fine new suggestions. In the next few weeks, I will be sharing some of the new ideas that I have! I hope that you will share your ideas with me!
Sweet Pea received the “I Can Do That” game by The Cat in the Hat. We had so much fun playing this quirky game – young and old alike. The basis of the game is that on your turn you draw three cards. One card gives you a gross motor skill activity to do – skip, jump, etc. The next card tells you to which object to carry – objects from the Dr. Seuss books. The final card tells you a position in relations to your body that you carry the object – on your head, between your elbows, etc. As you can imagine, giggles will flow.
Here are the pluses – the game is a great gross motor activity to be plugged into either the 3 or 4 Year Curriculum. It also teaches position words – over, behind, on, etc – which are also covered in the curriculum. Our kiddos asked to play this game more than once which means that it is kid approved.
A few minuses – The game contains “stop” cards which means that a person does not have to do the activity when a “stop” card is drawn. We ended up taking out all of the stop cards because it slowed down the fun. I wish the game came with more cards or even blank cards to give you more choices to draw from. As with any game, the option is always there to add to it on your own.
Amazon suggests this game for 4-8 years old. I would suggest this game for preschoolers as I feel early elementary age children would become bored with it.
I give this game 4 Star if you are willing to add to it and make it your own. If you are strict to games and the written rules, I would not suggest it as the fun could be short lived.
