I just finished reading The Boy Who Changed the World with Bubs. Boy, did it spark some conversation!
First of all, an overview:
The book contains four stories that are tightly linked together. It is through the stories that a child can see the influence they can have on the world. The othe rall theme is that “every little thing you do matters.”
The Boy Who Changed the World teaches children how their actions can set off a spark that, in turn, influences the lives of others.
Momma C’s Thoughts:
The last line of the book is “You can be the kid who changes the world!” Immediately after the book was over Bubs said, “I can’t change the world.” This is where a discuss began. I used a current issue and explained how Bubs actions and attitudes can affect those around him. It wasn’t something that he grasped 100% but I know that it is something that will lead to more discussion as time goes by.
Amazon places this book for children ages 4-8. At 40 pages long, I believe this book is better suited for elementary age children. Even at six, Bubs had trouble grasping the concepts and keeping an interest. Because this book contains American history in it, I think it would be a great book to go along with a 1st or 2nd grade or even late elementary history lesson. Definitely, a book to read when studying George Washington Carver.
The only reason why I can’t give this book 5 “books” is because it won’t be a favorite of my kiddos. We will read it a few times but it won’t be one that they ask for over and over. I do believe it is a good book with a wonderful overall theme.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson Publishing for providing me with the opportunity to review this book.
