I am always interested in devotionals for children. As I stated earlier, Bubs is ready to move on after reading through the The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories several times with his Daddy. Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions For Kids
Each daily devotion in this book starts out with a key verse that is written out to review and focus on. Then there are typically three paragraphs written to discuss the verse. I love how the words are written as though Jesus is saying them directly to the reader. This makes the devotional time much more personal. Jesus Calling
The book is created to have an “old” look which was fun for me. Not really sure that it would draw in a child. Once again I disagree with the chosen target age group of 4-8. I believe that this devotional would be much better for upper elementary and middle school children. The devotions do not contain stories or specific life examples. They are more vague and “deep” thoughts.
Momma C’s Thoughts: I can’t see us using this devotional. Please understand, it is not because this book isn’t well written or is lacking on scriptural truth. Quite the opposite. I just know that for right now, my kids aren’t ready for this. They are loving reading Keys for Kids each morning. The stories are practical (although a few topics are still too old for our kiddos so we just monitor and adjust) and the children easily understand the meaning of the coordinating scripture.
Sarah Young has an adult version of this same devotion called Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence. Written in the same format as the children’s version, I am interested in checking this out for myself.
