Sweet Pea’s b-day is coming up and when she saw this Bible, she expressed her thanks to the mailman for bringing it to her. Obviously, this Bible is a huge hit with our almost 4 year old. She carries the Bible around with her everywhere and wants it read to her throughout the day. During quiet time, she flips through the pages several times looking at the princess pictures.
Sweet Pea’s rating – 5 Stars!
From a mom’s standpoint, I am thrilled because this Bible is teaching my daughter Bible stories, truths from God’s Word. She is hearing reconfirming words that she is a princess. (More on this, read my three blogs about being a Princess) Perfect!
From a reviewer’s standpoint, this book didn’t met my expectations. A lot of great features but some that seemed hurried or not thought out.
Positives:
- I like the board-book format. As much as this Bible is carried around, this is a huge plus.
- The Bible contains rhyming stories of 19 women in the Bible. Some many times, children grow up only hearing about the men in the Bible.
- Using the story, there is a final thought about what a princess is/does. Afterwards are sentences that allow you to insert your child’s name to make them personal.
- The 20th story is an action poem explaining to the child that she is a princess because she is a daughter of the King.
Disappointments:
- Some sentences rhyme, while others don’t. This makes reading it a little weird.
- On a few of the stories I felt the wording was chosen because of rhyming instead of it being scriptural.
- About 25% of the pages include huge blank, white spots. At first, I wondered if I was to add a picture or if something was missing.
- The age group for this Bible is 4-8. I expected more of a “Bible” layout than a toddler book.
I find myself in an unusual place because I know that this Bible will continue to be a favorite of our child’s but yet I truly can’t rate it well. There are great Bibles available. Keep looking until you find the perfect one for your situation.
