The Berenstain Bears Do Their Best is another in my series of reviews on the Berenstain Bear books. It is a rhyming story of the Cubs and Papa building a kite and then winning a contest.
Momma C’s Thoughts: As I review the various Berenstain Bear books, I either love them or could do without them. I find a huge variation in quality. This is one that is lacking and seems to have been quickly put together. For example, the kite is illustrated with a tail but on the next page Mommy declares that it needs a tail.
The plot is okay; showing the family working together for a goal. They ignore all of the negative comments about their efforts and the kite and in the end succeed. The author tries to pull in their winning with their faith being strong. I believe this can send the wrong message to children because no matter how much we pray, sometimes God’s answer is not now or no.
If you are fan of the Berenstain Bear books, this one is worth checking out from the library. Fun book if you are going to build a kite together as a family.
