In October I was introduced to a new series of books out called Little Lessons from Our Animals Pals by Andy McGuire. I was thrilled to read Remy the Rhino Learns Patience and even more excited when Eleanor the Hippo Learns to Tell the Truth came out this year. Both books are simple but get right to the heart of the matter.
Eleanor is a hippo who of has trouble telling the truth. Fibbing makes her feel really good until it backfires and she hurts a friend. In rhyming form, the book backs up so eloquently what we as parents say.
In our home, lying has definitely run its course. At approximately two and then four years old, our kiddos dive head first into it. Thankfully it has been a stage each time and fairly short lived. At age six Bubs is struggling as well but he is seeing the consequences of lying. (Yes, it is rough when it is an every two year thing and your kids are two years apart!) This book really hit home with Sweet Pea. So much so that she claimed she didn’t like that book. Sounds like success to me!
This is a book that will be read many times in our home. The children like the humor, safari animals, and cute storyline. I like the story because it runs parallel with what we are teaching at home.
This book has been added to the 4 Year Curriculum character eduction lessons on honesty.
