Review: God Loves Me More Than That

Based upon the verse Eph 3:17-19, God Loves Me More Than That explains to the reader how wide, long, high, and deep the love of God is.  Using rhyming words, Dandi Daley Mackall uses every day examples to explain to children that God loves them so much.

Momma C’s Thoughts:  The kiddos enjoyed this book.  It isn’t very long but the illustration by David Hohn really pull you in.  Most pages feature the same little boy in different scenarios as he learns about God’s love.  On one page he is an astronaut while on another page he is a cowboy.  The kids wanted to discover what the boy would be next.  The illustrations look very similar to the type used in God Gave Us Christmas because Hohn was the illustrator of both books.  The soft, details drawings are very pleasant to look at.

The concept of teaching how much God loves us is a great one for preschool and early elementary aged children.  How high?  Higher than the moon.  How deep?  “Deeper than a treasure chest beneath the sea.”  But then the author compares “how wide” to the width of a semi.  She goes on further to discuss how much God’s love weighs and how loud it is.  This was a little strange but the kids glossed over it.  I would have liked to see the author talk about God’s love for us even when we sin.
Overall, a cute book and one we will reread.
