As soon as a Karen Kingsbury book comes out, I try to get my hands on it. Her newest novel, Leaving (Bailey Flanigan Series), is in the mail as I type this review! Stay tuned for a review of this book soon – though I promise not to be a spoiler.
I knew that Karen Kingsbury has written some children’s books but I hadn’t read any before reading her newest book out, Brave Young Knight.
Brave Young Knight is about a knight that decides to be honest despite those around him taking the easy road. In a competition of strength, speed, and intelligence, the knight doesn’t follow the crowd but does the right thing to the end. Even though he loses every side of the competition, he is rewarded for his honesty in the end.
Momma C’s Thoughts:
I was very tempted to skip over this review. But, as a good reviewer, I have to take the good, bad, and ugly that comes along. If I wasn’t such a humungo Karen Kingsbury fan, this review wouldn’t be so hard.
The moral of this story is wonderful. Honesty, integrity. Chosing best over easiest.
Unfortunately, the delivery didn’t pull us in. About 25% of the way through the book, I lost Little Man. 40% of the way through Sweet Pea was done. 50% of the way through the book, I could have put it down but was hopeful as the overall message was really good. This story reminded me of a parable that a grandfather would tell his highschool-aged grandson while taking a walk in the forest. Not a story for preschool and early elementary aged children.
Sadly, I can not suggest this book. If you are looking for a wonderful boy book, I highly suggest A Warrior Prince for God.
But, have I mentioned my love for the Redemption Series by Karen Kingsbury???
Thank you to Zonderkids for allowing me to review this book.
