Twin Sisters contacting me about review one of their products. I thought the kids would enjoy the book Ten in the Bed with Sing-Along Music CD.
The story is based on the well known song – a number of “somethings” (in this case bears) are in a bed. The little one says, ” Roll over.” So, they all roll over and one falls out. This goes on until there is only one in the bed. Each version differs on the ending but this book ends with the bear saying, “Goodnight.”
The book is an approximately 8.5″ x 8.5″ padded board book. The illustrations are all pastel and soft. A twenty-five song CD accompanies the book. The first 15 songs all deal with counting. They are sung by women or children. The last ten are instrumental bedtime songs. They are soft and have a nice synthesizer sound.
When reading to my kiddos, they didn’t want to finish the book. There is very little variation between the illustrations and by nature the words are basically the same each time. Going through the repetition ten times was too much. I believe the book would have had a much better effect had it only contained five bears at the start. My kids got tired of counting and lost interest quickly.
Amazon states this book for four to eight year olds. While the mathematical concept is geared toward the older kids, I would suggest that the pictures and CD would work better with younger children.
Twin Sisters Productions has created many musical products – book with CD’s and plain Cd’s. The quality is always very good. I have reviewed another book of their’s as well – Five Little Bunnies. Unfortunately this one example just wasn’t my favorite.
Thank you to Twin Sisters for allowing me to review this book with my honest opinion.
