Buck Denver Asks: What’s in the Bible? Volume Eight is one of the newest What’s in the Bible DVD’s by Veggie Tales creator Phil Vischer. This volume covers Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon – also know as The Writings of the Old Testament. Some may argue some of the hardest books of the Bible to explain to kids. Leave it to the Jelly Telly gang to do it so well.
It starts by discussing poems and the poetry written in the OT. While discussing Job, the video covers who satan is – not an easy explanation but done well. There is an excellent review and overview of this very difficult book.
Next the characters explain the songs of Psalms as records of the Israelites writing back to God. “150 psalms for every occasion.”
In the second of the two episodes Buck Denver is sad wondering if he will every find someone to love. This is the segues into Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Songs of Solomon. The puppets teach us the differences between smart and wise, and their opposite – foolishness. Although Ecclesiastes could be considered a “downer” book, Phil explains that the book shows how God can be trusted in the good and the bad.
Lastly is the book of Songs of Solomon. They explain this book as a letter between a husband and wife. “It’s a mushy love song.”
In review, the Bible has answers for almost any question you can ask.
This DVD won’t be our kiddos favorite one of the many DVD set because not every book of the Bible is going to have famous stories like Noah, Jonah,
and the Resurrection. But it is important for the understanding of what is in the Bible. But, don’t worry the Jelly Telly gang takes hard, deep subjects and
makes them fun and educational.
Another score for the Jelly Telly team!
