When asked on the ABC Jesus Loves Me Facebook Group page about your favorite children’s books, one of you suggested The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village by Francis Chan. With my farm-girl background, of course I had to know more. And, I was thrilled when David C. Cook allowed me to review this little gem.
The villagers love their big red tractor. It helps them grow enough food to feed the whole village. But, it isn’t until the farmer finds the owners’ manual that the villagers realize the capacity of work that the tractor can do. Once they put the tractor to work, the people were able to bless others in neighboring villages.
If the name Francis Chan rings a bell it is because that he is the popular pastor, speaker, and author of best selling books like Crazy Love: Overwhelmed by a Relentless God. His popular adult books are bold, inspiring, and convicting. He also has authored three children’s book including The Big Red Tractor and the Little Village.
One of the points that I love about this book is that Chan doesn’t stop with the story. He takes the time to write in the application, explaining that the owner’s manual for the tractor is like the Bible for us. That the Holy Spirit is available to those who trust in Jesus and will help them do things that they wouldn’t normally be able to do.
Because of the spiritual lessons and draw for children, I have added this book to the 5 Year Curriculum Week 3 lesson on the Holy Spirit. And I can see why it is a favorite of yours!
What is your favorite children’s book?
Thank you to David C. Cook for allowing me to review this great book!
