Six years ago I was introduced to this completely updated book. I absolutely fell in love with it and it continues to be one of my favorite children’s book included in the ABC Jesus Loves Me Curriculum. Now, Tyndale has turned this gem into an adorable alphabet and activity app.
Some of you may recognize this title originally written over 30 years ago. It is one of the many books that Kenneth Taylor wrote during his 88 years of ministry to help all people understand God’s Word. He was the founder of Tyndale Publishing, translator of the Living Bible, and also wrote such children’s books as The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes (also used in the ABCJLM Curriculum).
Geared toward children ages 3 to 7 year olds, Big Thoughts for Little People: ABC’s to Help You Grow
covers it all – Biblical verses, moral and character education, phonics, cause and effect, and higher-level thinking. The art work is fabulous. The questions are thought provoking. The Bible verses are easy for children to grasp.
Each letter of the alphabet contains a Biblical concept. There are questions that cover the reading and ask the child to interpret the large picture on the adjacent page. Throughout the picture are various items that start with the key letter.
When Bubs first saw this book several years ago, he had so much fun looking for pictures of items that started with the letter that he didn’t even want to be read to! He also searched for the ladybugs scattered throughout the drawings making the book a fun seek-and-find. Understand that this book is not a quick read. There is so much involved that it will be a favorite for several years.
When I received the email last week stating that this book had been turned into an app, I immediately thought of you! I knew the ABCJLM users would love combining the book with the app.
While I was only able to review the first three letters (A, B, C) of the free app, Peanut and I loved what we did. He practiced writing his letters, put together puzzles, and played a memory game.
Just as in the books, he looked for items in the picture that began with the specific letter.
One activity allowed him to place items that began with various sounds in different boxes.
According to the iTunes description of the app, “Kids will have access to 156 different activities that include memory
games, identifying differences between pictures, exploring scenes,
sorting different elements, assembling puzzles, listening for words and
identifying the correct picture, playing musical instruments, letter
coloring, word tracing, and more.” Letters A, B, C are free but for only $2.99 you can have the entire alphabet!
And I have the opportunity to give one of these books away!!!
