There are seasons in motherhood that feel long and heavy—and others that feel like they’re gone in a blink. I came across these words from a childhood friend, and they struck such a deep chord in me, I knew I had to share them. Maybe you’re in the thick of it right now—wiping noses, reheating your coffee for the third time, and carrying what feels like the weight of the world. If so, this is for you.

It’s not our turn for spontaneous date nights, or quiet car rides. To sleep late or have a spotless house. We’ve had that turn, and we will again.
It’s our turn to model healthy love for our babies, as we learned from their grandparents. To soak up all the kisses and hugs and laughs and tantrums. It’s our turn to make big memories and cherish it all deep. We have someone’s childhood in our hands and we don’t get a redo.
We carry a lot as mothers. Laundry, diaper bags, groceries, snacks and water bottles. Growing babies in our bellies. Crying toddlers with yet another scraped knee.
But we also carry invisible, intangible things. The familiar fear of what the future holds, or the grief that comes from loss. Things no one will ever see, that will stay hidden from everyone but our God who carries us. We carry hope, love and the deepest joy. We carry it all, often in the silence of our hearts, and it can feel heavy. But oh! the gift of it.

Mama, what we’re carrying matters. And even though this season isn’t easy, it’s sacred.
So take a deep breath, look into your child’s eyes, and remember—you’re doing holy work. Gospel work. And you’re not carrying it alone.
