Several months ago I mentioned that my mom gave me a 1993 issue of Shining Star magazine. Included in this issue is an excerpt from Jody Capehart’s book – Cherishing and Challenging Your Children. The article called “Making Meaningful Memories”, contains practical tips to create family traditions and memories throughout the year. Each month, I will be featuring suggestions from this article and Ms. Capehart’s book.
November:
1. Talk to your child about what it means to have an attitude of gratitude. Every time he expresses something that shows a grateful heart and spirit, put a sticker on his chart. At the end of the month, reward him with something special to show how important it is to you that he is learning to have a grateful heart.
2. Make “I am Thankful for You” cards for those people who often are forgotten. {Janitors at church or school, bus drivers, mailman, trash hauler, etc.}
3. Celebrate Indian and pilgrim customs. Study up on their lives. Make costumes and invite in someone who doesn’t have a family and have an old-fashioned Indian-pilgrim holiday. {The Berenstain Bears Give Thanks book is a great book to help get you started on ideas.}
4. Learn about Election Day. {Discuss how God says we are to pray for our leaders; even those we don’t agree with.}
5. {ABCJLM Thanksgiving Ideas}
