During my devotion time last month, I read through the Proverbs from The Message by Eugene Peterson. While I wouldn’t suggest The Message as a primary version of the Bible, reading this paragraph translation of Bible opened my eyes to new understandings.
Read these verses from Proverbs 17 with me:
27 The one who knows much says little;
an understanding person remains calm.28 Even dunces who keep quiet are thought to be wise;
as long as they keep their mouths shut, they’re smart.
While reading this, I was drawn back to a post I wrote a few months ago called I Talk to Much. In this post, I shared how the Holy Spirit is reminding me to “close it.”
I find that when I feel a lost of control, I start “talking” to my children instead of training and disciplining. I lose the respect of my children as they turn me off with paragraph after paragraph of lecturing and reminding.
Who knew that there were verses in the Bible confirming this thought?
