Now that Bubs is full-fledged reading, it is nice to have books that he can read on subject matter than he enjoys. The “I Can Read!” series by Zonderkidz include five levels to help developing readers; for those just starting to read to those reading chapter books.
Jonah: God’s Messenger is one of the newest in the series. This book is placed in the 2nd Level for developing readers. While some first graders may be able to read this book easily, the Level 2 is still too difficult for Bubs. Because of the 32 pages, I would place this book closer to a 2nd grade reading level.
Dennis Jones is the illustrator of this book. If you like the Read with Me Bible for Toddlers pictures, then you will like this Jonah book. Using the same comic-book or super-hero like drawings, Jones’ illustrations are vivid and detailed. Although I was not a fan of the illustrations in the Read with Me Bible for Toddlers, I really enjoyed the depictions of Jonah in this book. They bring some humor to the situation.
Unlike the Veggie Tales Jonah movie, this book ends the story after Jonah agrees to go to Ninevah.
The kids enjoyed reading this story with me. With so much going on in the illustrations, we can read the story many times and still see new things in the pictures.
