As a teenager, I devoured the Christy Miller series. I ordered each book as soon as I learned through my Focus on the Family magazine that they were available. I stayed up deep into the night reading about Christy and Todd.
When I saw that a rediscovered book was available, the part of my brain that holds all of my teenage memories came alive.
Departures: Two Rediscovered Stories of Christy Miller and Sierra Jensen is a combo book with two 100 page stories. The first novelette is of the newly graduated Christy Miller while she visits her family and friends from Wisconsin. Christy is reminded of what commitment means while watching her grandparents celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Following is a story of Sierra Jensen. Also during the summer, Sierra enjoys a vacation with her friend Jana at a cabin off the lake.
Momma C’s Thoughts: It was interesting to read these books that just 15 years ago I couldn’t put down. While still teeny-bopper books, I enjoyed reminiscing about some of these characters.
Even as a teenager, the Christy Miller series was my preferred set of books over the Sierra Jensen set. Reading these rediscovered series, I felt the same. I always felt the Sierra Jensen series was more “teenage-soap-opera” with a little scripture added in. The Christy Miller series seemed to have more depth and scripture guidance in it – well as much depth as a series for teenage girls can have.
I enjoyed these books but strictly because I enjoyed the series. Alone, these stories probably wouldn’t have much draw.
So, I will add this book to my collection of books I am looking forward to sharing with Sweet Pea in about ten years! The Christy Miller, Sierra Jensen, Elizabeth Gail, Jennifer, and Mandie serieses. Serieses that got me through those rough teenage years!
Thank you to WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
