We watch very little TV in our home. When the kids do watch something, it is typically a DVD such as Veggie Tales, Boz the Bear, or What’s in the Bible? or educational programs on TV. I am always looking to expand our library with quality videos that echo the morals and values that we teach in our home.
Adventures in Booga Booga Land is the newest Christian DVD available mid-October by Thomas Nelson. In cartoon format and with the use of slapstick humor, the friends Marty (monkey) and Gerard (a giraffe) experience adventures based upon parables in the Bible. This DVD contains three episodes featuring: The Workers in the Vineyard, The Wise and Foolish Builders, and The Lamp under the Bowl.
Momma C’s Thoughts:
Sweet Pea and I watched this DVD together during quiet time. While I loved our “girl time,” I felt the video was a little lacking. I felt like the parables were roughly presented but never explained. To use this program effectively, an adult would need to view the episode with the child and then help the child understand Jesus’ meaning. From the info on the DVD packaging, I understood that the message would be clearly presented. So, this was a disappointment.
Workers in the Vineyard – The story was very clearly presented with Marty and Gerard washing windows all day and making the same amount as those who washed for one hour. The concept that Jesus was trying to teach was never explained. Actually, other than the title and scripture, Jesus, God, or the Bible are never mentioned throughout the episodes.
The Wise and Foolish Builders – For me, the whole point of this story is that Jesus is our rock and foundation. Building upon any other source is foolish. I believe that it is impossible to tell this story without including Jesus in it.
The Lamp under the Bowl – I missed the correlation between the parable and the cartoon episode. I could see where they were going with it but in my mind it never made it to the finish line.
Sweet Pea said she liked the video although I don’t know that she would say otherwise since she was having one-on-one time with Mommy! If you are looking for animated stories from the Bible, I would stick to Veggie Tales or something comparable. I believe the message is clear and easily grasped by young children.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson for giving me the opportunity to review this product.

I am looking forward to reviewing this DVD as well. We like you don't watch a whole lot of TV and I was hoping to expand our DVD library.

Danita – I have only rated a product a "2" one other time, so I would greatly appreciate your take on the DVD.
