If you ask Bubs his first impression – of anything right now – he will be negative. So when we sat down to read the next book in my Usborne reviews, he immediately said he didn’t like this book. So, I started reading it outloud. It wasn’t two sentences and he was right beside me. Then when I said the word “treasure” he got really excited. He was definitely drawn in deep.
In Puzzle Ocean, someone has stolen the king’s precious golden crown. The reader has to help Rosie travel through the ocean looking for clues and certain items. There are fifteen books in this series ranging from school to castle to holiday.
Momma C’s Thoughts:
1st – There are so many things to look for in this book. You could literally spend hours finding everything. Plus, these are not simple finds. It get challenging when an object is asked for but only a small portion of the pictures is actually drawn.
2nd – Some higher level thinking is involved in this book. An object may be asked for but it is not found for several pages. This requires the child to remember what is to be found. I also love the visual perception skills that are required for a child to search for items.
3rd – Although a three or four year old may enjoy this book, it won’t be until a child is a little older that he or she can fully grasp everything asked.
4th – For us, this book had to be read and looked at in several sittings. It might be fun to read and view a double-page a day.
Overall – The plot of this story isn’t my favorite but Bubs really got into the whole “treasure” theme. The overall concept of this book is great. The amount of learning that occurs is unreal – especially since it is drowning in fun! I can see more of these books being under our tree at Christmas this year!
