About six months ago, I read the book Have a New Kid by Friday: How to Change Your Child’s Attitude, Behavior & Character in 5 Days by Dr. Kevin Leman. This book is currently on my “Mommy Survival Books” list at ABC Jesus Loves Me. One key point from the book really struck a chord with me – “B doesn’t happen, until A is completed”. Boy have I used this in our home since!
Let me give you an example: Our children are to have their clothes changed before breakfast time. This includes putting away their pajamas. This “clothing” process would be considered “A”. With breakfast being “B”, each child gets breakfast after their clothes are changed and put away. “B doesn’t happen, until A is completed.” There is no need for me to harp on them. Instead, breakfast is not served!
What I love about this method is that it is a natural consequence. It will work in almost any situation and with young children as well. I HIGHLY suggest this book for all parents.
