Last year I shared a compiled list of your and our favorite Christmas books. While these are great to read before bedtime, some of you shared that you are going to use the list as a Countdown to Christmas Book Activity. Pre-wrapping 25 individual books, your family unwraps one book each day to read. Love it!
Today I want to share two more Christmas books by Zonderkidz now available to order and add to your Christmas Books list.
The first is co-written by the beloved children and adult author Max Lucado. Whenever the opportunity arises for me to review one of his books, I jump at the opportunity. I am amazed at how God allows Mr. Lucado to write so profoundly for adults yet so simply for children. Truly a gift.
The Christmas Story for Children follows Jesus’ life from the Jews waiting their King to Jesus beginning His ministry. The illustrations are soft and filled with emotion. I love the facial expressions of Mary and Joseph on the cover. It shows how much love they had for their son.
Amazon states that this book is geared for ages 4-8. Because of the vast amount of words on each page and the length of the book, I would place it for older children. My children lost interest very quickly due to the length and wordiness.
Confession. I am not a huge fan of the Veggie Tales books. While my kids like them, I highly discourage them from choosing the books for mommy to read before quiet time. (Just keeping it real!) But, I was pleasantly surprised when I read the newest book in the series, Yuletide Ice Cube Fair, because it is a huge step in the right direction for the Veggie Tale products.
The town of Yuletide is excited about the upcoming Ice Cube Fair. All will participate in the sculpting event to form the blocks of ice to represent what Christmas means to them. Will it be Santa Claus, Christmas trees, or elves? A Christmas feast, the shopping mall, or angels. No the winner is a depiction of a tiny little stable.
Christmas isn’t all about the big, the bright, the new. Christmas time means Jesus – and the love he brought for you.
And you can’t get much better than that.
