Who Do You Desire Kudos From?

03/05/2014 by Heidi

Bread: Nice bread

Both this blog and the ABC Jesus Loves Me website are ministries that God has placed in my hands.  Thus, I feel a huge responsibility to build them wisely.  I spend quite a bit of time praying over and pondering their futures.

Of this blog, I continually ask myself the following questions:  Are the readers being encouraged?  Is this blog drawing them closer to Christ?  Am I sharing points that are relevant and what they need to hear?

Time for some honesty.

Sometimes my eyes get focuses on the world around me instead of God.  I will see a blog that has 60,000 “Likes” or is shared over and over on Facebook.  I question, “What am I doing wrong?”  Then the lies of the enemy come creeping in.  Maybe this blog isn’t have an impact.

It was with these thoughts that I began my quiet time this morning.

Clicking to the next day on my YouVersion Devo plan, I read the scripture from Matthew 13:31-33.

31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”  33 He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds of flour until it worked all through the dough.”

Typically, I would draw the verse and figure out the meaning and apply it to my personal life.  But this set of verses left me empty.  Thinking the devo would have some insight, I began reading Jim Daly’s thoughts on the Scripture.

“Jesus reminds us, His kingdom is often found in simple acts of love that go unnoticed by others, but never slip past His watchful eye.”

And the Holy Spirit gently said, “Where are you looking?”.

When my eyes are on the world, I am looking at numbers, shares, and kudos from people. But, when my eyes and goals are on the Lord, I am seeking what He has for the sites.

A mustard seed appears so small and insignificant but God grows it into “the largest of garden plants.”  A small amount of yeast seems pointless until we smell the yummy effect it has a large amount of flour.

Kudos from people?  Kudos from my Savior?

There is no “small” ministry when we are doing what God has asked us to do.
