Unacceptable Yelling from Mommy

06/27/2012 by Heidi

I have anger issues.  It’s true.

And almost every time, the anger comes riding in on ugly words while wearing a very yucky tone.  It even takes me by surprise because for most of parenting, I am pretty calm and don’t let things get to me.

But then…over something small or big, I explode.  {No mega-phone needed!}  Sometimes at very bazaar times.

Ironically, I erupt on those whom I love most.  Each time, I go and apologize to my kiddos, asking them for their forgiveness.  Then, I am humbled at my own sinful desires and tenancies.

Just as I tell my kids, I need to find an acceptable action to replace the unacceptable action.  There is nothing better to defeat temptation than a Bible verse.  Ephesians 4:29 is the verse that I am committing to memory for this issue.  Then, whenever I am tempted to sin, I can say this verse.

Memorizing this verse doesn’t mean, I won’t lose it again. It does mean that by inviting the Holy Spirit into the issue, I am one step closer to healing.

I am right there with you and appreciate this post's reminder to get a hold on my tongue!! Thank you and hang in there. Isn't it amazing how forgiving our kids can be?

Thankfully God made our kiddos forgiving or otherwise we would all be in a mess! 🙂

I am so there with you. I have been trying not to get so frustrated and speak to my family harshly and raise my voice. I know that is not the way to treat the ones I love and I do not want to act that way. Thank you so much for the reminder of this verse. I will print it and place it somewhere I can see it everyday as a reminder that we are to control our tongue and actions and build up and show love to others everyday. Thank you.

You and me both, girl! Know that I am learning this verse along side you.

Thank you for this. It is an issue that has been heavy on my heart. My children are 3 1/2, 2 and 9 months and it gets a little crazy and I get a little cranky. I have always regretted my shouting occasions (and apologized to my kiddos for them), but recently I have begun to hear my oldest son echo my tones and my growls of frustration and it breaks my heart. This scripture reference and the reminder or grace and new chances is so helpful.
