I have enjoyed reading through the ideas in the book Wow! I’m Reading!: Fun Activities to Make Reading Happen
A fun activity in the book is called “Huff-and-Puff Science”. Based upon the story of the Three Little Pigs, the child can be a “huff and puff scientist” and see if they come up with the same results as the Big Bad Wolf did.
Supplies needed:
Dries grass or straw
Twigs
Lego-type blocks
Jumbo fast-food drinking straw
1. Make three small “houses” or clumps – one of straw, one of twigs, and one of blocks
2. What do you predict with happen when you use the drinking straw to blow hard at each house. Now try it! What really happens?
3. Could a pig build a house? Could a wolf blow it down? Can air move things?
Take this activity a step further by gather more ideas. Set them on the ground in a line. Predict which idea will travel the furthest.
