No Child Left Behind has created a lot of buzz-words that educator assume the rest of the public knows. Words like “standards”, “benchmarks”, and “framework”.
Here is a brief definition of each:
Content standards are a set of learning expectations. Local schools use these to develop their curriculum. Benchmarks are the more detailed learning objects. Together the standards and benchmarks create the Curriculum Framework.
States have a list of Standards for each grade. Basically a list of what each child should know before they pass that grade. By Googling your State Preschool Curriculum Frameworks, you can see what your child should be learning during preschool.
