I have mentioned before Your Therapy Source – a blog that I follow. I have found bits of pieces of info that has been helpful.
You can view a Motivation Assessment Scale to see how much of a behavior is sensory or just behavior. I have not done it myself but find it very interesting and will soon fill it out!
After the questions are answered with a 0-6 scale of never to always, the test is scored. The question responses are then broken down into 4 categories – sensory, escape, attention and tangible. The category with the highest score is most likely related to the behavior.
Very interesting! Take a look. Let us know what you learn.
Our Family Is His says
This is something that's so hard to understand, even for parents. I tell our therapists all the time, "sometimes he's just 4" (or 2 depending on which son I am speaking of). Many times it's their Autism, SPD, etc that causes the issues. But when my 4 year old looks at me, cross his arms, and says, "you can't make me", he's just being 4 1/2.
I think it's so important that we really identify childish behavior with their disorders because the childish behavior needs to be addressed very differently than the disorder-led behavior.
