In Princess Part 1, I shared that God has been using different books, scripture and sermons to change my view of princesses. Today, I will explain this by focusing on the first three points presented in yesterday’s post.
I have learned is that it is our job, as father and mother, to help Sweet Pea understand that she is God’s princess. I am not talking about the Disney princess here. Nor am I talking about just an outside appearance. I am talking about her being:
1) An image bearer – Girls display to the world God’s beauty and mystery. – Gen 1:27
No matter what magazine covers try to imply, Sweet Pea needs to understand that she is beautiful. God created her in HIS image.
2) A helper – God created girls to be helpers. – Heb 13:6; Ps 18:4-6, 10:12-13, 33:18-22; Gen 2:18
This is not a “negative” but I think of it as a completion. As her mom, I am to mold her be the best helpmate that she can possibly be for her husband. To me that means training her to take care of a home, raise and love on her children, be a friend to other women, and respect her husband. All of these things give her dignity and beauty because through all of these she will glorify God.
3) Unique in the creative order – Girls are not an afterthought. – Gen 2:7-9, 19-25
In her book Captivating, Stasi Eldredge puts this best. I tried to summarize her points here
but truly couldn’t do it justice. The over all point is that Eve was created because things were not right without her. God didn’t form us as women or our daughters in one careless motion. Unlike almost everything else formed from dirt, Eve was uniquely formed by a rib. As insecurity creeps down to affect even younger ages, Sweet Pea needs to understand that God didn’t mess up. She is uniquely created to glorify God.
More tomorrow…

I love that you are spending time with your daughter. I am working through Captivating and instilling these values in myself as a woman. Something that I wish I wasn't just learning and doing at almost 30 but very important nonetheless.
