While talking to another mom about our spirited Little Man, I gained some very wise advice.
Upon the birth of her oldest son, my friend asked her grandma for a piece of wisdom on raising kids. Her grandma told her:
You can either bandaid the problem or fix the problem.
When life as a mommy kicked in, my friend stuck bandaids on her mirror to remind her not to choose the easy road.
Wow..what wisdom. We all know that consistency is what makes a good parent. But even the most-consistent parents get tired and frustrated. After a while, we want a quick solution instead of sticking to discipline that we know is correct and will produce results.
Daddy has reminded me several times that Little Man’s obedience is getting better – little by little. The encouragement to not “bandaid” the issues is sometimes the only thing that keeps me going (instead of running to hide in the closet for several hours) when Little Man is going from one bad choice to another.
What are you placing a bandaid on? Stay strong! It will pay off.
