Sweet Pea and I sat down and read the first two chapters together. At only 4 1/2, this book was above her but we enjoyed the girl time and I highlighted certain sections. This is a book that I will put away from four or five years. I know very shortly, we will be reading again.
I love how this book encourages a girl to discuss and seek help from her “royal advisers.” This encouragement helps a little girl see those adults around her as advisers and not the “enemy.”
This book gets into the details – how to trim your toenails, how to put together an outfit, managing time. Topics aren’t glossed over but have detailed tips and quizzes to help a girl know if she is on the right tack. The illustrations ask the girl “what is wrong with this picture” or correspond with the learning.
Absolutely packed full of specific things that a princess needs to know or do. It opens up topics that a mom and daughter need to discuss in a way that isn’t demeaning or in a childish way.
I would suggest this book as a birthday or Christmas present for all 8-12 year old girls depending on the girl’s maturity and exposure. Use this book around a special “girl time” experience to make memories and learn together during mother/daughter time. I look forward to using it with Sweet Pea.
