We have been studying Hebrews 11 at church for the past few weeks. If you recognize that reference, this is sometimes called the “Faith Chapter” because several of the verses start with the words, “by faith.”
A few weeks ago, the pastor focused on verse sixteen:
Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
He had each of us place our own name in place of the word “they” and “their”. For example:
Instead, Emily was longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called the God of Emily, for He has prepared a city for her.
Go back up and try it yourself.
Powerful stuff! God is not ashamed to be called my God! It hit me like a ton of bricks…God is not embarrassed by me. I am not the child that He wishes we didn’t have the same last name!
There are times that I approach the throne like an embarrassed child, timidly take small steps for fear of judgement. But there is no need. Because of the blood of Jesus, I can run freely into my Father’s arms. Praise God!
