I was pretty excited to see The Bernstain Bears Get Ready for Christmas book in my mail. Then when I saw the “Lift-the-Flap” aspect, I was pumped. My kids love to lift the flaps to discover items.
Sadly, the book didn’t do it for us.
The story follows the Berenstain Bears through the house finding missing manger set pieces. The pieces are found behind various objects which the reader can view behind the flaps. Most of the sentences include, “Here is the ____ piece.” At the end, the Bears have collected all allowing them to set up the manger. The story contains no plot or climax. On a side note, I also found it a little cumbersome to call the Wise Men, the “wise bears.”
Unfortunately this is not a good representative of typical Berenstain Bear books. Although I highly recommend many of the Stan and Jan Berenstain books, this one by their son Mike is not one that I would suggest.
Thank you to Zonderkiz for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
