We all have them. Those attributes that cause us to scream out to God, “Why am I like this?”. Those things we hate about ourselves. I shared examples of these traits in the post 25 Things (I Don’t Want You to Know) About Me.
But do you want to know what is interesting? For some reason, I expect my children not to have these traits. It’s like I expect them to know better.
Hang with me on this one.
It hit me one day while I was losing my cool with Bubs. I was trying to figure out why his minor behavior was having such a major affect on my attitude.
That’s when it hit me. What he was doing was something that I find myself doing; something that I really hate about myself. Instead of giving him the grace that I need, I took out my frustration on him for both of our wrongs.
How about an example…Let’s say that you bite your fingernails. You desperately want to stop but struggle with a life-long habit. One long, tiring day, you notice your child biting his fingernails. Suddenly you come unglued with the child catching the blunt of your frustration.
The point?
Just keep it in mind. It has been revolutionary to me!

YES!! I have had this realization several times especially with my strong-willed oldest child.
