Yesterday we cleaned out the closet in Room #1.
If you are like me, once your husband’s feet faced the door, you ushered him into the closet to see the progress.
Today, we are going to finish the first room.
1. Same start as yesterday: Prepare for the day. Put on your tennis shoes. Turn on the tunes. Gather the supplies. Rally the troops.
2. It’s time to sort things in the room. Now that you know what is in the closet, you know what you have, what you need, and what needs to go. Create a keep pile along with a “Throw Away” and “Give Away” bags. Start on one side of the room and rotate around working from top to bottom.
3. Take the “Give Away” bag(s) and “Throw Away” bag(s) to the garage (or other designated spot).
4. Look at your “Goal.” If walls, vacuuming, and windows are on the list, this is now the time for the deep cleaning. But be warned, only do the cleaning on your list.
5. Return things to their rightful place.
6. Close the door. This room is F-I-N-S-H-E-D!!!
Go celebrate.
But What If I am Busy Today?
For the majority of you, the Desperate to Declutter campaign came out of the blue. You weren’t able to clear your schedule just because I decided to devote the blog to tiding up around the house in a big way.
Don’t dismay. There are things that you can do too.
Look at your Goal. If declutter is one of the items on your list then head to a closet armed with two trash bags and a timer. For the next 15 minutes, sort those items nearest the door – keep, give, and trash. When the timer goes off, take the bags to the garage and shut the door knowing 15 minutes of work is 15 times more than if you had done nothing.
If washing curtains is on the list, make sure this is done today. If dusting the base boards… If cleaning the ceiling fan.
Something is better than nothing.
See you tomorrow!
"The Family" says
I finished my list of things to clean, just could not move the bed to vacuum behind it (might have to wait until my husband gets home for that task). I did hang up a picture that has been hiding for nearly 7 years, nice to see it! 🙂 My give away pile is getting large and I don't have a lot of room to keep it piling up. (Any suggestions?) I am really enjoying my time with God and the time I have gotten to honor Him by cleaning up the mess! 🙂
