How I am Returning to My Vision for You

06/18/2014 by Heidi

Her text cried tears of frustration, struggles, and worry.  Her son was out of control and she didn’t know where to turn or what to do.  Suddenly she found herself in a club she didn’t have any desire to belong to.

My heart broke for this dear friend.  I understood.  I have felt each emotion in my own experiences with raising Little Man (6) and Bubs (9).  I knew the loneliness that came when I too crossed the threshold into the “Mother of a Child with a Disability” Club.   I remember the world spinning around me and not knowing how to get off the horrible amusement park ride.

When I began this blog, my vision was to encourage women.  I wanted to come alongside you as you daily – moment-by-moment – endeavored to “impress” God’s love and forgiveness on the children in your care.  I desired to share things that I have learned in hopes that it would ward off mistakes that I have made.

My second drive to share – and the reason for the name “Our Out-of-Sync Life” for this blog – is to encourage those, just like my friend, who have children with a disability; especially those with Sensory Processing Disorder, ADHD, and Autism as these are near and dear to my heart.  After many, many texts and phones calls with my friend, God has placed it on my heart to return the blog to my original vision.

Periodically the next few weeks I am going to be sharing what these disorders are, share examples of how my kiddos function with them, and provide ideas that I have picked up in books, life, or through therapists.

Some of you came to this blog because your child has a disorder.  My heart’s prayer is to minister and encourage you!  I would love to know your questions and the topics you would like me to cover.  I don’t have all the answers but I will share what I have learned.  Either leave a comment or email me.  I want to know how to help you.

The rest of you may be tempted to mentally “check out” for these posts.

Will you do me a favor?  Please don’t.  Please read each and every post.

I promise you that there is a momma in your family, school, church, work, or play group who can use your understanding.  She is desperate for someone to have empathy and find ways to minister to her because she feels lonely, exhausted, and overwhelmed.  Trust me.  Use these posts as a window into the life of a family with disabilities.  I have no doubt that God will use the information to bless those around you.  I hope that you come back later and share with me how God used the posts.

Second, please share this blog with mommas who need encouragement.  Show them that they are not alone.   Provide them with ideas.  Tell them to leave comments with questions so that I can know how to minister to them.

Last, please subscribe to our blog so that you won’t miss any of these posts.  You can do this several ways:  email, RSS Feed, Facebook posts, etc.  Remember by subscribing by email or RSS Feed you also receive a free copy of my ebook “A Quiet Time, Worth the Time.”

I think the best way to end this post is in prayer.  Will you please join me?

Daddy…there are many mommas who are  lost, lonely, and discouraged.  You want to make beauty from the ashes in my family.  You want to turn my tears into life for others.  I ask that You please give me the words.  Take over my fingers and type what these readers need to hear.  Second, show these readers how they can come alongside these tired families.  Open their eyes to opportunities to spread Your love.  Last, Daddy bring to this blog those who need to know Your love, strength, and wisdom.  I pray that these posts would encourage them to jump into Your arms for the love that they need knowing that they are not along in this journey.  In Your name and for Your glory…
