A year ago, I had the privilege of sharing an early review of The Chosen’s newest season, expressing my excitement for the world to experience the powerful episodes leading up to the Triumphal Entry (Palm Sunday). If you haven’t heard yet, The Chosen is now in Season Five, moving even closer to the cross, beginning the profound events of Passion Week. But what exactly is Passion Week, and why is it so important?

What is Passion or Holy Week?
Passion Week, also known as Holy Week, marks the final days leading up to Christ’s resurrection. It begins with Palm Sunday when Jesus rides into Jerusalem—not on a horse like a typical king, but on a humble donkey. The people believed He would save them from Roman oppression, but this marked the beginning of the events leading to Jesus’ death, burial, and ultimately His glorious resurrection.
For young children, focus on these key events of Passion Week:

How Do I Explain Passion Week Events?
Even after nearly 50 years of learning the Bible, I still find certain events of Passion Week challenging to grasp and explain. However, through research and teaching, I’ve gathered simple ways to help young children understand. The links in the list above provide a wealth of ideas, along with tools like child-friendly Resurrection Eggs, the Easter Treasure Hunt, and the Easter Activity Workbook. I encourage you to explore these resources to help your young kids or students comprehend the significance of the events.
For elementary-aged children, I recommend What’s in the Bible? Volume Ten – Jesus is the Good News! This episode does an outstanding job of explaining the Easter story through catchy songs, humorous sketches, and clear Bible stories. It beautifully highlights the gospel message and helps children grasp the good news of Jesus in a fun and engaging way. This is one of my favorites.
As an adult, I’ve found The Chosen offers a deeper cultural understanding of Jesus’s ministry and Passion Week while providing a visual representation of events that can sometimes feel abstract. As I’ve stated before, The Chosen is not the Bible, just as a storybook Bible is not the Bible. However, Season Five, The Lord’s Supper, can help you better grasp the storyline and characters, making it easier to explain to children—especially with Easter approaching.
