Who is God?
Quite a question. But as our children get older, I find the questions are getting tougher.
Who Is God?: A Story of Wonder and Love for Kids puts these questions into story form about two children who visit their grandpa at the farm. Situations arise the cause Adam and Annie to ask some big questions. They discuss stars, God as Creator, God as infinite Being, God’s care for us, and so much more. The last page includes scripture to back up the author’s story line.
Momma C’s Thoughts: This book is a suitcase packed full of great Biblical theology. My fear is that the suitcase is too full to close. Even as an adult, it was almost more than I could take in at one time. We definitely had to take breaks with the kids as they lost interest very quickly. I wish the book had been written in chapters to allow for scheduled breaks. Don’t get me wrong. There are some really good questions and great answers. Just a lot of them packed into 30 pages.
The story is written in narrative present tense. (No, I didn’t know what it was called and yes, I had to look it up.) But no matter, it made it hard to read. Instead of reading “answered Grandpa” or “she spied,” everything is written with an “s” after the verb. Reading “he shouts as he leans…” was a little weird. I found myself tongue tied at times.
The illustrations are a nice addition to this book. With soft colors and simple details, they are pleasing to the eye.
Because of its depth, this is a book for elementary aged children. Even as a Kindergartner, this was a rough one for Bubs. This is one of those books that we will have to tuck away and pull out again in couple of years.
Thank you to Harvest House Publishing for giving me the opportunity to review this book.
