With Bubs starting to read, I am enjoying the “I Can Read” book for their simplicity and repetition of words. Jesus, God’s Great Gift is one of the Level 2 readers about the Christmas story.
In very simple terms the Christmas story is presented. To help developing readers, the sentences are short and repetition occurs. The story begins with Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem. They ask several people for a place to say before being led to the stable. A star is placed in the sky above the manger to let the shepherds and wisemen know where Jesus is. This story ends with two sentences explaining that Jesus grew up to do special things and save us from our sins.
Momma C’s Thoughts: Understand that the “I Can Read” books are not going to be on the “Top 100 Children’s Book” list. Their purpose is to help develop readers and encourage the love for reading. Thus the plots are sometimes weak and stories extremely repetitive – for an adult. I believe these books are successful if they encourage a child’s desire to read.
I like the opportunity that this book provides for a child to be able to read the Christmas story for gathered family and friends. Keep this one in mind for the emerging reader in your home!
Thank you to Zonderkidz for the opportunity to review this book.
