Didn’t you love Alicia’s analogy of the onion yesterday? It restated the importance of going deeper into the classic and Bible stories we read to our children.
As stated on Tuesday, stories are an excellent way to teach children about emotions and pragmatics. Homeschool On a Dime suggested using the Teaching Emotions printable to help with this. (Something that I have suggested on the “Teaching Emotions” page and totally forgot about it!)
Here’s how to do it.
Print and coloring the six emotion faces from the two-page Teaching Emotions printable. Color and back with a popsicle stick.
As you read a Bible story or book pause periodically and allow the child to choose the emotion that the character is feeling. Always ask the child why he or she chose the emotion.
Next week, I will be sharing a book that includes an “emotional” star in its illustrations to help teach this concept.
How do you teach your child pragmatics?
