When the kids are finished with our summer school time, I read to them while they color or draw. I was excited to receive the book A Big Year for Lily (The Adventures of Lily Lapp) to review and read during this time.
The kids were intrigued with the Amish and enjoyed learning about their way of life. In the beginning, they enjoyed listening to the adventures of nine-year-old Lily gardening, taking care of the horses, playing with friends, dealing with troublesome classmates, and attending school.
While I had high hopes, my kids struggled to stay focused and get excited about story. I have to admit that I had no yearning to read the next chapter either. While the story is cute, we struggled to get into the plot.
So…sadly, we have moved on to other chapter books. I do think this will be a book that Sweet Pea will read on her own when she gets a little older.
Available July 2013 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group.
