I heard this quote on a Focus on the Family broadcast a while back and I apologize that I don’t remember who said it. But it was so thought provoking that I want to share it with you.
Think about what you say to your child and then imagine a stranger or your sister-in-law saying it to your child.
Changing the words, think of it this way…
Think about the tone you have with your child and then imagine your child’s teacher or therapist using it with your child.
Or how about this sentence…
Think about the words you say to your husband and then imagine your brother-in-law saying them to him.
One more…
Think about what you say to those around you and then imagine someone saying them to you.
I encourage you to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to fill in the blanks for you.
Think about what I say to my ___________ and then imagine ___________ saying it to him/her.
Here is a verse for all of us to memorize:
Dear Jesus, bridle our tongues. Help us to see the fires that we start with our explosive tones. I pray Psalms 141:3, “Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!”
In Jesus’ name…
How do you control your tongue?
