Wasn’t it just yesterday that I was reviewing board books for Sweet Pea? Now as 5 1/2, she only reads board books to entertain her toddler-aged brother. With Kindergarten knocking on her door, I know that she is going to be reading chapter books very soon. So, I want to know what series are available for our little princess.
Here’s Lily (The Lily Series)
When I received this review book, I thought it would be a book that Sweet Pea and I could read together. Upon reading the words “shut up” – words that are not allowed in our home – on the first page, I changed my plan. I then realized that I needed to read this book as a pre-teen instead of a mom of a preschooler. Once I changed hats, I saw a lot of truth written on the pages.
Points I like:
The book continually emphasizes that each of us are created beautiful. By accenting different parts of our face, the beauty comes out to the human eye.
Lily and her friends strive to let negative comments from others roll of their backs. This is a hard concept for adults, let alone sixth-grade girls.
Beauty comes from God-confidence. It isn’t about self-confidence after all.
For now this book is going on the shelf. But I know it won’t be long before it will be pulled off and read by our pre-teen!
