Sweet Pea loves it when I review princess books. So much so that she will ask if I have a new one yet. Princess Stories: Real Bible Stories of God’s Princesses by Carolyn Larson is the latest in the list.
Twenty-nine Bible princesses fill this book’s 120 pages. Each section begins with a poem:
“Mirror, mirror on the wall” and goes on to explain the princess. Then the princesses “story” is told through the perspective of the princess. Scripture reference is given to support the story. A character trait is brought out in each princess (i.e. loyal, trusting, sharing, etc.). It is shown how each princess was special and God used them in special ways. A Bible verse concludes the story. Then some a review and reflection time called “Princess Ponderings.”. The 30th princess is “You.”. For some reason my first impression of this book wasn’t that great. But it has really grown on me to the point that I really like it!
The character traits are pulled out of the Scripture and well written into the story. Love the character education! The review question allow for discussion and deeper understanding.
At five, Sweet Pea enjoyed these stories but I know that in a couple of years this book will even be more meaningful to our “girl time.”
