A few weeks ago, I encouraged everyone to purchase A Warrior Prince for God. Today, I will introduce you to the “girl” version of this book.
Princess with a Purpose is very similar to its brother book. (If you haven’t read the other review, be sure to before reading this one.) A little girl has a dream that she attends Princess Prep School. While there, she learns what it takes to be a real princess.
Princess with a Purpose Review
I love how Kelly Chapman gets right on kids’ level in these books. What little girl (and big girl) doesn’t want to be a princess. Read the main point of the book with me:
“…the way you look and the dresses you wear don’t make you a real princess. Look at the pretty pink flowers on the table. In a few days they won’t be beautiful anymore. Outside beauty fades away, but real beauty comes from inside the heart. A real princess has a heart full of love for her King and other. That’s what makes her truly beautiful.”
Isn’t that exactly what I am trying to teach my little girl? Love the Lord your God and love others.
This book also ends with a list of verses for “How Do I Become a Daughter of the King?” A salvation prayer follows along with a place to write the child’s name and date that she becomes a daughter of the King.
My favorite part of the Princess with a Purpose concept is how they teach the girls that real princesses don’t use a mirror to look in. They hold the mirror out, facing it up to the sky to see Jesus. I love that concept.
I kind of wish that I would have read the Princess book first because I think my reaction would have been better. It is just hard to read this one after reading A Warrior Prince for God. It isn’t that I didn’t like the Princess book; I was just blown away by the boys’ book (probably because there are so few excellent boy books).
Both the Princess with a Purpose and the A Warrior Prince for God have been added to the 4 Year Curriculum’s study of Esther. This Bible story is an excellent time to talk about what a real princess and warrior does. If you are unfamiliar with this non-Disney approach, check out John and Stasi Eldredge’s books Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man’s Soul and Captivating. You can read a review and blog posts of Captivating here.
Side note: Harvest House offers Princess with a Purpose(TM) Curriculum Kit for churches, VBS programs, Sunday School material, etc. I have not reviewed the actual product but think it could be a powerful program for a preschool or church to put on. View a video here.
Thank you to Harvest House for giving me the opportunity to review this book.

Kelly Chapman led our Women's Retreat a few years ago and I was so impressed with her heart for God and her passion for building the self esteem of little girls and boys.
