A year ago, I wrote a blog about Bubs struggling with rhyming words. Fearing he would begin kindergarten still not hearing the rhyming sounds, we intentionally worked with fun words to help him hear the sounds.
I was thrilled when Bubs’ kindergarten teacher taught him a little rhyme to help.
____, _____They both say _____. (clap)
Here is an example:
For the first semester of Kindergarten, Bubs walked around the house quoting this rhyme a lot. Not long after, Sweet Pea and Little Man started saying it. While in the car, I will hear them say this rhyme with different real and nonsense words.
Super fun! Give it a try.
Rhyming is so important to beginning reading. Check out this blog series “Teaching a Child to Read” for great tips on how to grow a reader.
