In our “Preparing to Impress: Home Hints” blog post, I shared my appreciation for FlyLady.com. The ideas and schedules on her website and in books she has written have helped 1000’s of women organize and clean their homes.
Using her ideas and various ideas that I grew up with, I came up with a weekly housecleaning schedule a few years ago. I have tweaked it a little but hopefully this list will help get you started.
There is debate on whether to do a load of laundry a day or just devote one day a week to laundry is better. Honestly, I don’t know which is more time effective. I think it is a personal preference and change the below schedule accordingly. How I Tamed the Laundry Giant
Sunday
Empty the Trash
Water the Plants
Monday
Wash Sheets
Wash Towels
Clean mirrors, tubs
Tuesday Vacuum
Mop
Dust
Work in zone for 30 minutes
Wednesday
Laundry
Thursday Pay bills
Shop/Run Errands
Work in zone for 30 minutes
Friday
Laundry
Refrigerator
Clean Sink
Microwave
You may have noticed the activity “work in zone for 30 minutes.” This work allows you to do deep-down, spring-cleaning cleaning. Zones are areas of concentration or focus. It is more detailed and thorough than normal, every-day cleaning.

2) Wipe baseboards & electrical plates
3) Wash Windows
4) Wash doors
5) Clean china cabinets/bookcase – dust, wash windows
6) Wash table & chairs
Zone 2: Kitchen
1) Clean vent & ceiling fan
2) Wipe baseboards & electrical plates
3) Wash Windows

As soon as you finish all of the zones, begin again. I believe according to FlyLady you finish a zone a week. But tweak all of these ideas to make them your own!
On Friday we will put all of the schedules together: Family, Mom, Cleaning, and Meals! And next week, we will prepare curriculum and supplemental materials.
