Want to Know Why?

10/20/2014 by Heidi

source

How many times in my life have I asked that exact question?  Sometimes in a whisper.  Sometimes with tears rolling down my cheeks.  Sometimes in anger, screaming out to God…why?

Why was my sister killed just three weeks before her high school graduation?  Why did Bubs require open heart surgery at just six days old?  Why does he struggle every day of his life due to the lack of oxygen he received to his newborn brain and the weeks flat on his back in the hospital?  Why does Little Man have so little impulse control even though he desires to make good choices.  Why does his little brain bounces from one thought to another?

Why is my life not what I pictured?  What I dreamed.  Why…  Why…  Why…

You can create your own “why” questions, I am sure.  Go ahead.  Take a moment and create a list.

I would guess that it didn’t take you too long because “why’s” swarm our minds as we try to reason earthly happenings with an omniscience (perfect and all knowing) God.

At church one of our pastors answered the “why” question in the best manner that I have ever heard.  He said, “Our ‘why’ is His glory.”

Let me say that again.
My “why” is His glory.

Romans 11:36 says, “For from Him and through Him and for Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.”

My “whys” are His “all things” mentioned in this verse.

My sister was killed for His glory.  Bubs had surgery for His glory.  He struggled everyday for His glory.  Little Man was created with ADHD for His glory.  My situation, my daily struggles, my life are for His glory.

Your turn.  Fill in the blank.  My ___________  from Him and through Him and for Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.

Want to know why we go through the valley?  It’s for the glory of God.  For God’s glory I am here in 2014.  With the husband I have.  With the kids I have.  Living where we are living.  Doing what I am doing.

Here, now…for His glory.

This week I am going to dive deeper into this thought by sharing what God has taught me through His Word and then share an idea that I am doing with our kiddos to help them understand why they were created.  So be sure to subscribe to this blog so you don’t miss the rest!
