As we roll into the busy holiday season, now is the perfect time to be intentional with our families or students. This season offers countless opportunities to “impress” (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) the love of God and love for others on the hearts of our children or students. Whether through simple acts of kindness, fun traditions, or creating meaningful moments together, we can use this time to focus little eyes on the truth.
Light Up Halloween
If your family enjoys the fun of pumpkin carving, candy gathering, and lighting up Halloween, this can be a great opportunity to embrace joy and creativity while still keeping your focus on what matters most. These festive traditions can be used to teach valuable lessons like creativity through crafts and the importance of being a light in the darkness. And don’t miss the list of delightful fall books, poems, and songs.
If you’re unsure whether Halloween is right for your Christian family, you’re not alone. I invite you to read the article “What’s a Christian Family to Do with Halloween?”. Regardless of your decision, I encourage you to take 10-15 minutes this week to share the Gospel through a fun pumpkin carving activity. It’s a powerful visual that can resonate with everyone, reminding us how God can take our yuck and shine brightly through us.
Afterward, continue the learning experience with a bucket of Halloween candy.
A Month of Gratitude
Did you know that Friday marks the first day of November?
Fall, November, and Thanksgiving present a wonderful opportunity to cultivate an attitude of gratitude. When thankfulness becomes a way of life, it transforms our perspective, allowing us to see God as our Sovereign Lord, Provider, and Protector.
If I could do it all over again, I would spend the entire year discussing gratitude with my children. A thankful heart helps combat many struggles we face, such as laziness, pride, and anger.
Introduce gratitude through fun songs and poems, books, crafts, activities, and recipes. Let the Thanksgiving Gratitude Workbook guide your time together. With easy-to-follow scripts designed for both preschool and elementary-aged children, you’re sure to create enjoyable and meaningful experiences.
