In our family, we don’t do superheros for the boys. We don’t do princesses for Sweet Pea…oh wait…but do we? Seem a little contracting? Let me explain…
It is our personal conviction not to watch or purchase items that include superheros. When Bubs is exposed to the various popular superheros, he goes nuts. We don’t mind his friends talking about them or even if he plays with them at someone’s house. But, in our home we feel there are better things to play with and view on TV.
Now to Sweet Pea and princesses. We started out the same way with princesses as we did with superheros. But then I read the book Captivating (read my review) and Bringing Up Girl (read my review.) I quickly realized that princesses (and superheros) aren’t bad; it is what the media has done to make them unwholesome.
One of our pastors spoke on this very topic a few weekends ago. He spoke directly to dads about the importance of making their daughter(s) and wife feel like princesses. If you have read Captivating you will recognize several of these points.
Wives and Daughters:
1) Are an image bearer
2) Are a helper
3) Are unique in the creative order
4) Have a beauty to unveil
In the next few posts, we will together unwrap these points. I think you will see the importance of princesses too!

I have been on the fence about superheroes for my boys for a very long time. I don't like the overly sexual and violent typical superheroes that are out there.
I have been searching for Christian heroes or at least a show that didn't spit in the face of the morals that I'm trying to instill in my boys. I've found 3 so far. I'd be curious to hear your reasons for the superhero ban.

LaToya – You always have such good questions. The main reason why we don't "do" superheros around here is because of the aggression that we have seen it bring out in Bubs. Every time that he is around superheros in one way or another, we have trouble with his control. We had to put away the Wii boxing because he wanted to box everything. It is like he gets something in his head and can not let go of it. Is every boy like this? No. But because of what we have seen this has further solidified our decision. I would also like Bubs to have real role models. Instead of being Super Man, let's be David or Joshua in the Bible. Or let's look up at someone in our life that he admires because of moral characteristics.
