On our first Talk 2 Me Thursday, LaToya left this question:
I would love to know what Bible time looks like at your home with the little ones.
AND
Is that your Bible time as well, or do you have another set time for devotion??
Thanks for the question! First of all, our Bible time is about to change. And I am so excited!!! I will be covering this in detail in the next few week. So, I am going to skip this question for now and answer the second one.
We do “school” Bible time in the mornings – Mommy and the kids. I am very blessed in that Daddy does devotion time with the kids before bedtime. Daddy reads a story from one of our Kids’ Bibles, they sing a song and then pray. In the beginning, I really wanted the stories to be the same as a reinforcement. But Daddy really likes to read straight through the Bible with them. And they have four or five times now. I like this because they get an overall feel for the Bible from Genesis to Acts. For “school” Bible time we dig a little deeper and focus on names, character education – really learning the specific Bible stories.
So…hang with me and soon I will be telling you about our new Bible Time!!!
What does Bible time and devotions look like for your family?
Our Family Is His says
Right now Bible time is tied to our school time. I read from one of their children's Bibles (depending on what I am wanting to impart on them that day) and often read from a book like "Big Thoughts For Little People".
This is not my Bible time. I need much more depth than those Bibles and books provide. I need it for my sanity and strength. I use my adult Bible and my Sunday school lesson book. I go through the week's lesson each day (it's divided into smaller pieces so you can do it daily or all in one huge setting). I write out my prayers, and lay my heart out there in prayer. Sometimes this is done with littles around, sometimes it's done before they wake up, and sometimes after they go to bed. Flexibility, for me, is key.

Wow! I really misread this question, LaToya. I am sorry. I thought you wanted to know if our kids' bedtime devotions was the same as their school time – Bible time. I apologize and will rewrite my answer. Thank you to "Our Family is His" for helping me see this!

Momma C, that's okay. What you wrote was helpful as well. I can't wait to read about your bible time.
For my boys I try to read a bible story everyday, sometimes its the same one for the week. We read from a kids bible or one of the bible books that we have and then talk about the characters and dig through some important lessons: patience, obedience, etc.
For me I have no bible time. (sad I know) I'm so overwhelmed with single-mommyhood, law school, SPD, death of my dad and life in general that I've let that fall through the cracks. But I'm really needed to get some protected time for me and God.

LaToya, thank you for your honesty. I know that there are a lot of moms in your same boat. I have not always done quiet time and there are mornings that it doesn't get done. But each day is a new day. I will hopefully answer your question better in a new post coming in a few days.
